Pirot-based automobile tires factory "Tigar Tires" announced that it would start three-week stoppage of production the next day (December 12, 2008).

- The factory’s management has decided to discontinue production in the period December 12 – January 3, 2009, because of the effects of global economic crisis - said Vladimir Nikolić, the Director General of the Pirot-based factory whose majority owner is French "Michelin".

According to his words, the crisis influences Serbia, especially "Tigar Tires", which exports about 90% of its products.

- The problems that occur concern, first of all, smaller number of order, and there is also our wish to reduce quantity of ready-made products on stock at the end of the year and that is why we decided to discontinue production - said he.

According to Nikolić's words, only the service workshops and accompanying services will be available between December 12 and January 3, 2009.

The factory in Pirot has about 2,000 workers, while the factory in Babušnica employs about 200 of them

- There is no dismissal of workers at the moment. We will resume production on January 3rd, in accordance with our plans - said Nikolić.
