Belgrade might become regional eSport center – Chinese AliSports spreading from Serbia to Europe

The capital of Serbia might soon become the regional center for electronic sports – professional gaming tournaments.

– Serbia is the country we've focused on, especially because eSport has been recognized by the state. This will make it easier for us to build an eSport ecosystem with the help of official institutions – said Jason Fung, global eSports director of AliSports.

A delegation of the Serbian eSports Association visited the Chinese city of Haikou, which hosted the final of the World Electronic Sports Games (WESG).

– The talks with the Serbian eSports Association are definitely heading in the right direction and we are glad that we will soon make the cooperation official. This year, we had over 65,000 participants from all corners of the globe at our WESG tournaments, so I am extremely satisfied – Fung said.

Secretary General of the Serbian eSports Association, Dalibor Marinovic, said that the Chinese were satisfied with the conditions of doing business in Serbia.

– The biggest advantage of Belgrade is that all the capitals of the former Yugoslavian countries are located within a 500-km radius – Marinovic said and emphasized that this was an opportunity for Belgrade to develop into a regional center of electronic sports and that, at the current stage, the project also needed state support.

According to Fung, they want to establish an eSports tradition and to have it reach the standards of the Olympic Games. The aim is for all countries to get involved, and the WESG will spread to Europe next year.
