Novi Sad-based "Poli-Plast" will be the first company in our country to start producing photo-biodisintegrable trash bags that, no matter where you put or throw them, disappear in few years under the influence of sunlight without emitting methane. As the CEO of the company, Ljiljana Mirković, explains for “eKapija”, unlike other bags, this 100% disintegrable "polidal" bag does not need to be buried in the ground to disintegrate, so that it does not require some special care and treatment.

- You can leave it next to a container, wind can lift it to a tree or drop it into water, but it does not matter because the disintegration process, under the influence of sunlight and certain temperature, will start 3 months later and the bag will completely disappear in 2 years. This is very important because large quantities of waste, especially in rivers, lakes, seas and oceans, can neither be collected nor buried in the ground. By the way, the final products of the disintegration process are the same as in case of any other bag - carbon-dioxide, biomass and water – but this bag does not emit methane, which is not the case with disintegration of other disintegrable bags that are made of starch, hydro-biodisintegrable plastic, paper, etc.

As Ljiljana Mirković explains, unlike other commercial bags, "polidal" bag’s contents include the system of additives that "Poli-Plast“ imports from abroad, but the name of the supplier is kept secret at the moment. Our collocutor points out that the tests, carried out by the Technology Faculty in Novi Sad, proved that there is no growth of "migration" of toxic matters and heavy metals.

- Polyethylene is still the base for making bags, but it is only enriched with aforementioned system of additives. You can even pack food in them because it is proved that there is no "migration" of harmful matters from the packaging to the groceries –Ljiljana Mirković points out and adds that these bags are not invented by her company and that they have been used in the USA and EU countries for a long time.

According to the words of Ljiljana Mirković, in addition to the fact that it is freed from the presence of genetically modified ingredients, this bag is less permeable, so that it is suitable for wet waste. It also has series of other advantages in regard to paper packaging, as well as in regard to the bags made of cotton, starch or jute.

- Production of "polidal" bags is much cheaper than the production of bags of starch and it requires less raw materials and energy for production. During the disintegration process, "polidal" bag does not emit methane, which is 23 times stronger gas than carbon dioxide and creates the greenhouse effect. Production of paper bags requires 300% more energy than production of "polidal" bags. Also, paper bags can not replace plastic bags when it comes to their purpose and they have longer disintegration process than "polidal" bags – Mirković listed only few advantages of both production and use of photo-biodisintegrable bags.

By the way, "Poli-Plast" has been dealing with production of polyethylene and printed bags for 15 years and its product portfolio will soon be expanded. At the moment, the company has 17 employees, but Ljiljana Mirković hopes that the market’s interest in photo-biodisintegrable bags, which are in everyday use in every household in the USA and EU, will lead to creation of new jobs.
