Serbia among top 10 countries in Europe by planned investments in wind farms
According to the report, a total of 16.8 GW of new wind power capacities were installed in Europe in 2017, of which 15.7 GW in the EU countries.
Seven countries also set records in newly installed wind farm capacities in 2017 – Germany (6.6 GW), Great Britain (4.3 GW), France (1.7 GW), Finland (577 MW), Belgium (476 MW), Ireland (426 MW) and Croatia (147 MW).
Last year, the share of wind power in energy systems in the EU amounted to 55.4%, more than twice as much as solar power. At the same time, it covered around 11.6% of the demand for electrical energy in the EU.
The share of wind power in energy production in Europe has reached 18%, taking the second spot, behind gas.
When it comes to investments in future wind farms, the last year also saw a record being set in the total capacities of projects for which a final decision on investments was reached. A total of 11.5 GW from wind farms was announced, more than a year before.
It's interesting that the value of investment in new wind farms in countries outside the EU also increased in 2017, amounting to EUR 2.9 billion.
Statistical data show an increase in investments in 38 European countries, and the top 10 features three non-EU countries – Russia, Norway and Serbia.
