Zajecar might get a free zone close to the area designated for Industrial Zone West, Istocne Vesti reports.

As said, this was discussed at the meeting between the mayor of Zajecar, Bosko Nicic, Milan Ristic of the Ministry of Finance and Dragan Kostic, director of Free Zone Pirot.

Free zones are physically bordered and marked parts of the territory of the Republic of Serbia, equipped with infrastructure, where production and service activities can be carried out under certain favorable conditions.

By operating in free zones, investors get special benefits and tax reliefs (exemption from VAT and customs duty on export of raw materials and materials meant for production of goods to be exported, machines, equipment and construction materials).

Export and import of goods from and to the zone are unlimited, and the goods imported to the local market from the zone are subject to the regulations pertaining to the import of foreign goods. Employers within the free zone are allowed to lease business premises, workshops and warehouses under favorable conditions.

Serbia currently has 14 active free zones.
