Telenor gets business offer in Serbia – Decision on sale to be made in first quarter of 2018

The Norwegian company Telenor, which has over three million users in Serbia, confirmed on Friday, January 26, 2018, that there was an interest in the takeover of its business in the mobile sector in Serbia, Hungary, Montenegro and Bulgaria.

– Telenor has received inbound and unsolicited interest for its Central and Eastern Europe portfolio – it is said on the group’s webpage.

Telenor says that they expect to conduct these assessments in the first quarter of 2018, but that this will not impact Telenor’s operations, customers or employees.

– Telenor’s CEE companies have strong market positions and solid financial results, and contributed in 2017 with approximately 9 % of Telenor Group’s revenues and approximately 8 % of EBITDA before other items – says the press release.

The Bulgarian portal EUScoop reports that the speculated price tag for the business is USD 2 billion. Media have been speculating for some time now that the Norwegian mobile giant is negotiating with the US-based KKR fund about the sale of its business in the Balkans.

Telenor has been operating in Serbia since 2006.
