Serbia gets national council for raspberry
He told Beta that the national council, which will consist of representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, experts and producers of raspberries, would work on marking raspberries and blackberries with geographic designation of origin tags.
– We have been promised that producers, especially those from the Zlatibor and Morava districts, would receive help in processed materials, due to last year’s period of adverse weather, which have caused the most damage to agriculturists in those districts – Radovic said.
He added that representatives of the association were disappointed that the meeting hadn’t been attended by Minister of Trade Rasim Ljajic, as they had wanted to talk to him about the import of raspberries in large amounts, which is causing the purchase prices of locally-grown raspberries to drop.
Radovic said that the association wanted a meeting with Ljajic and that he would propose for the import of the fruit to be banned during the harvest, and to implement import taxes later, so as to protect local producers.
