Rehabilitation of Islam-aga mosque in spring, construction of another mosque, oriental restaurant and museum in pipeline

Already with the first days of spring, rehabilitation of Niš-based Islam-aga's mosque will be continued. The Government of Serbia set aside 6 million CSD for rehabilitation of burnt mosques in Niš and Belgrade, whereas additional 3 million CSD is necessary for completion of all works on Niš-based mosque. Mayor Smiljko Kostić handed 300,000 CSD for Islamic religious group and announced construction of another mosque and oriental restaurant. There is also an idea that "Pašin konak" (Pasha's palace) inside Tvrđava should be adapted into museum.

According to the last census, there are 1217 citizens in Niš who belong to Islamic religious group. President of Niš's Islamic group, Nijaz Saiti, claims that there are over 20,000 Moslems living in Niš, but they "avoid" saying that.
