Beginning with the next school year, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade will also get its IT department, as per the decision by the University's Senate, which adopted a new study program, Information Technologies in Mechanical Engineering, on Wednesday, January 17, 2018.

The introduction of the new three-year, 180-point study program, is one step away, as the Commission for Accreditation needs to give its approval.

– The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering already has a master studies program called Mechanical Engineering and Information Technologies, so this is a modernization of the current undergraduate studies. Around fifty new students will predominantly deal with information-communications technologies in mechanical engineering – says Radivoje Mitrovic, the faculty's dean.

He expects the Commission for Accreditation to approve the new study program during April and May and that they will be able to have the first generation of students enroll at the faculty this autumn.

– This way, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering not only implements information technologies, but also strengthens the digitalization of all fields of study at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – vehicles, aircraft, smart buildings, clean rooms – Mitrovic emphasizes.

He clarifies that the new study program entails the implementation of information-communications technologies in mechanical engineering and that it is different from other IT departments at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the Faculty of Organizational Sciences and the Faculty of Mathematics.

– We are keeping the main program and we are developing mechanical engineering, but there's no mechanical engineering without a wider use of ICT – Mitrovic concludes.
