Dutch Barentz acquires Soforebo Sombor
– The acquisition will strengthen Barentz functional protein portfolio, and expand the company’s market share in the Balkans. Soforebo was established in 1993 and soon became the market leader in the distribution of functional proteins in the Balkans. Barentz has fully acquired the company, and will also take over the operation of the business – the Dutch company's official website says.
Geert Ingelbert, Vice President, Barentz Food & Nutrition, says that Soforebo’s market share and products, especially their role as distributors of Essentia’s animal proteins product range, bring synergy effects for Barentz business in the Balkans.
He emphasizes that they already have a long-lasting partnership with Essentia in other countries, and that this merger strengthens their cooperation and makes Barentz very strong in the animal protein field. Barentz Group encompasses several dozen brands and boasts strategic partnerships with the most important global suppliers.
Tiedo de Boer, founder and former CEO of Soforebo, also commented on the sale.
– The merger with Barentz opens the opportunity to continue to expand the business that we have established over the past 24 years, and we are very pleased with this consolidation – said De Boer, who owned a 34% share in Soforebo until recently.
The other two co-owners, with a 33% share each, were Nikola Malbasa and former director of Panonka, Dusan Brbaklic.
Soforebo used to be a part of De Boer Trading Group, which has been present in the markets of former Yugoslavia since the 1980s.
