Export of IT services from Serbia exceeds export of grains for the first time

According to the National Bank of Serbia, the export of services in the field of information and communications technologies reached EUR 750 million in 2017, Minister of Innovation and Technological Development Nenad Popovic stated today.

– For the first time, it has exceeded the export of grains from Serbia – Popovic told Pink.

According to him, more than 40,000 people work in the field of IT today, and the total annual income realized amounts to close to EUR 4 billion.

Summing up the year-end results, the minister pointed out that a lot had been done in the field of IT and digital economy and said that the session of the Council for Innovative Entrepreneurship and Information Technologies, presided over by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, had been held on December 27.

As he said, IT has been included as a subject in the fifth grade program for the first time, and a 600-m2 student startup center in Nis, in which seven companies operate, has been completed and equipped.


He added that the construction of two big science-technology parks was in progress as well.

– A modern technological park is being built at the University in Novi Sad, more precisely, at the Faculty of Technical Sciences. It will take up 25,000 square meters and be completed in early 2019. The project is financed by the Government of Serbia – Popovic said.

The minister added that a new unit, meant to house the laboratories designed back in the 1970s was being built in Nis as well.
