Three cups of coffee for a longer life
Perhaps the best demonstration of the global impact of coffee happened recently in Beijing, the capital of tea country – China, in which Starbucks opened its biggest store, taking up 2,700 square meters and employing over 400 people.
The popularity of this store chain is not related to the health benefits of coffee only, but the new research certainly shows that they cannot be disputed, the Voice of America reports.
– For some conditions, the largest benefit appeared to be associated with drinking three to four cups of coffee each day. This included lower risk of death from any causes, or getting heart disease – says Robin Poole of the University of Southampton.
Analyzing the data from 201 previous studies of the effects of drinking coffee, the researchers determined that coffee consumption also reduced the risk of the development of diabetes, liver diseases, dementia and even some types of cancer.
The scientists warn that the research pertains to coffee only and not to foods usually consumed with it.
– It’s not about sugar, syrups, biscuits, cakes and pastries. Standard health messages still apply to those types of food. In other words, if you already drink coffee, enjoy it, but try to make it as healthy as possible – the authors of the study say.
The researchers say that liver diseases stood out as having the greatest benefit compared with other conditions.
