Bypass route around Dimitrovgrad to be completed in December – Construction in final stage
In line with the project, a section around 30-m deep needed to be removed from the hill encountered in the direction of the route. Around a million cubic meters of stone was removed in the past months. The slope will be secured with a protective net and integrated into the surroundings. A wall be raised as well, with green areas planned behind it.
The bypass route around Dimitrovgrad is one of the “slowest” sections in the Serbian corridors, seeing how eight kilometers are being built for seven years. Following the bankruptcy of Austria's Alpine and the termination of the contract with the Bulgarian company Trace, Greece's Aktor also failed to complete the works within the agreed deadline. The construction was planned to end on March 21, but the financial problems of the Greek company, whose accounts were blocked for a year and a half, caused the deadline to be exceeded again. As the Corridors announce, the project is finally to be completed these days.
Another 20 kilometers missing in eastern branch
The eastern branch of Corridor 10, from Nis to the border with Bulgaria, is around 86.9 km long. Once the bypass route is completed, around eight kilometers from Stanicenje to Pirot and around 12 kilometers from the Bancarevo tunnel to Crvena Reka will remain.
