EUR 5 million is needed for the reconstruction of the Zrenjanin Road. According to Belgrade City Manager Goran Vesic, the reconstruction of this traffic route, which was in the charge of the Republic of Serbia until April 2017 and is now in the charge of the City, requires RSD 640 million.

The section of the IB-class State Road 13, from the Belgrade interchange, that is, from the turning towards Krnjaca, to the Kovilovo interchange, became the responsibility of the City of Belgrade this April. The PE Beograd Put is now in charge of maintaining it and the new 308 kilometers of roads, instead of the Roads of Serbia, as before.

– The City invested RSD 100 million in the Zrenjanin Road even before, while it was not yet responsible for it – Vesic reminds.

Still, even though the Zrenjanin Road has been in a bad condition for years, being full of holes, trench-deep on certain sections even, the repair work cannot take place next year, but only in 2019.

The PE Beograd Put confirms that, having in mind the considerable traffic load, the reconstruction of this section requires a previous preparation of project documentation. The reconstruction would entail the closing of the route and the redirection of the traffic down alternative routes. Keeping in mind its importance, all the conditions for the reconstruction first need to meet.

Pedestrian safety jeopardized

The biggest instances of damage along the Zrenjanin Road can be seen in proximity of bus stations, where passengers often find it impossible to enter the vehicle fully dry. Also, since there are no sidewalks along this route, pedestrians, especially school children, are jeopardized.
