Protocol signed for construction of bridge across the Sava between Obrenovac and Surčin

Ministers of infrastructure and National investment plan, Milutin Mrkonjić and Verica Kalanović, have signed the protocol today (September 30, 2008) with the Mayor of Belgrade, Dragan Đilas, for construction of bridge across the Sava, betwen Obrenovac and Surčin.

It is necessary to provide 1,682 billion RSD for construction of the bridge - NIP provided 300m RSD in 2008, the city Directorate for Building Land and Development set aside 150m RSD, while the rest of the funds, according to the announcement of Minister Kalanović, is going to be provided from the budget for year 2009.

The first works on the access junctions and conservation of the existing structure will start, as the Mayor of Belgrade announced, in 15 to 30 days. The bridge should be put int use by the end of the next year.

The bridge development project was started 15 years ago and the idea was that remote heating system connects two parts of Belgrade. The purpose of the bridge was expanded during the elaboration of the project in order for the bridge to be available for road traffic. The works on this project were discontinued 10 years ago.

The Minister in charge of the National Investment Plan, Verica Kalanović, pointed out that one of the strategic interests of that Ministry was completion of the projects whose realization had started earlier and was important for improvement of living standards of citizens and faster economic development of the region.

Kalanović said that that Ministry would provide every form of support to the city of Belgrade in realization of that project.

According to her words, the bridge will not only enable better traffic flow, but it will also provide the base for faster economic development of Obrenovac, Surčin and broader territory.

Đilas said tha the works on construction of the bridge would be entrusted to the initial contractors - "Mostoprojekt" and "Mostogradnja".
