Rome introduced classes of English and nice behavior for taxi drivers. The city said 750 drivers would have eight hours of "practical" English, a "cultural behavior" lesson, and instructions on how to make visitors feel welcome in the Italian capital.

In a country that makes a lot of money from tourism, knowledge of English and other foreign languages in this area is often quite bad.

Earlier this week, tourists in Rome found it difficult to find a cab, unrelated to driver behavior.

City cabbies joined a day-long strike of nationwide cabbies, protesting against the competition of Uber drivers and entrepreneurs who bought black vans, obtained permits and so fewer groups of tourists drive.
