The German company Tonnies and another two companies will be given agricultural land in Zrenjanin for use over a period of 30 years, as they have met all the requirements for the lease of state agricultural land, says the website of the City Administration of Zrenjanin.

Farmer 023 V&M Zrenjanin, Tonnies Invest Belgrade and Food Planet Zrenjanin are three of the 15 investors to have met all the requirements from the invitation placed by the Ministry of Agriculture pertaining to the lease of state-owned agricultural land in Zrenjanin, and the City Council adopted the draft decision on the right of priority lease of agricultural land owned by the state, pertaining to those three investors, at today's session.

Council member Stojan Kralj stated that Tonnies would get 2,431 hectares of land, which it would start exploiting in 2019, and added that they were planning an investment worth EUR 21 million.

– The Commission of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Government of the Republic of Serbia had a session this Monday, and Tonnies Invest has moved the deadlines for the beginning of operations and will enter the land in the agri-economic year 2019/20, by which time the land will continue being leased in line with the regular procedure – he said.

Farmer 023 V&M will invest EUR 500,000 in the construction of a livestock production facility, and it holds the right of 67 hectares of state agricultural land, for which it will pay an annual rent of around EUR 250 for first-class land over a period of 30 years. An investment of EUR 4.5 million in a facility for turning soy into proteins has been approved for Food Planet.

– Based on this investment, 900 hectares of state agricultural land belongs to them and the investor will employ around 30 workers in the territory of the city in the next year, and it will take possession of the land immediately – Kralj explained.

Discussing the items related to leasing agricultural land, Mayor Cedomir Janjic said that there had been a lot of talk about the German company Tonnies.

– They have met the requirements based on which this land belongs to them, and their letter of intent and the study present a year-by year schedule of what is to be done by both them and the other two investors. If they fail to meet those requirements, the contract will be terminated. It's interesting to note that the first two investors, which come from the territory of Zrenjanin, will take possession of the land immediately, whereas the arrival of Tonnies has been prolonged until 2019 – Janjic said.
