Changes at Air Serbia – 340 workers moved to Nikola Tesla Airport from November 1
The services, which entail the handling of goods and passenger traffic, check-ins, aircraft cleaning services, loading and unloading of luggage and manipulation of goods and post, will no longer be provided by Air Serbia, but by the workers of the Nikola Tesla Airport.
This decision is a business move made by the majority owner of Air Serbia for the purpose of overcoming the increasingly more demanding operating challenges together with the current employees. The union has welcomed the decision, as the workers performing more difficult jobs will thereby remain employed, be paid and covered by the collective agreement, instead of ending up on the street.
Sloga says that they won't be against taking in those workers, even though the general estimate by the unions at the Airport is that their arrival will jeopardize the current workers, which they believe is not true, as there's a constant need for employing new workforce due to increased traffic.
According to European standards, there are 1,000 employees to two million passengers, whereas, in Serbia, there are around 2,000 employees to five million passengers, which is insufficient in the union's estimate.
– We believe that this is a good business move, which puts the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport in the leading position in the field of ground services – says the press release by Sloga.
