RZD International interested in reconstructing entirety of Bar railway
According to the agreement, the first reconstructed section of the Bar railway, from Resnik to Valjevo, in the length of 77 kilometers, will be handed over by the Russian company to the Railways of Serbia on November 14. It costs around USD 70 million and is financed from the Russian loan of USD 800 million, lent to Serbia for the reconstruction of infrastructure.
According to certain data, the reconstruction of the remaining part of this major railway would cost around EUR 220 million.
– We want to continue the works, from Valjevo to Vrbnica. We have talked about this with people from the relevant ministry and we expect to get an answer. The realization of this big project requires the manner of finance to be defined, which is something for the Government of Serbia to decide on – Sultanov says for Politika.
RZD International has been working on the reconstruction of the railway and the rolling stock of the Serbian Railways, using the funds from the Russian loan and the state budget. Around 180 kilometers have been reconstructed so far, allowing for train speeds of up to 120 km/h. Furthermore, 27 diesel engine trains have arrived from Russia since 2015, all of which are operational.
