IKEA presents first furniture products for pets
The Lurvig collection was designed by Inma Bermudez, who felt there was a gap in the market for reasonably priced but nice-looking pet products.
When developing the collection, she worked alongside vet Barbara Schaefer to make sure that different behavior types and habits were being accounted for, Dezeen writes
– It's really important to use an animal's natural needs and behaviors – like how they sleep, eat or play– as a starting point – said Bermudez.
A “friendly-smelling bed” was designed for dogs, enabling owners to fill it with their own clothes and blankets so that pets would get a familiar smell when the owner is not present.
For dinner time, she developed a shallow bowl that encourages dogs to eat slowly, whereas cats have gotten durable-material houses, capable of enduring their scratching.
The new range of products for cats and dogs includes miniature variants of items from IKEA’s standard collection, such as the Klippan sofa, for example.
The rest of the collection includes reflective leads and collars, a travel basket, a play tunnel and a brush, Dezeen reports
