Biogas-fueled power plant opens near Backa Topola
Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic said at the opening of the power plant, which operates as part of PIK Moravica, that it was the best example of the synergy between agriculture and energy.
– In addition to 100,000 tons of grains produced here, as well as 3,000 tons of meat, 16,000 MWh of power will now be produced here – Antic said and pointed out that the production not harmful to the environment would thereby be made more complete in a sustainable manner.
He pointed out that the facility should serve as an example for how agriculture and the energy sector should join forces in other places in Serbia as well.
– This is an example for all big farms and cooperatives how to use byproducts from farms – Antic said.
He pointed out that the state would continue supporting such projects, important for achieving a greater percentage of energy production from renewable sources.
The head of the power plant, Vladan Divjak, said that the plant used byproducts from farms and the waste from the local industry as energy sources. He reminded that it would contribute to better environmental preservation, while reducing the energy dependence on fossil fuels.
As he added, the fertilizer which is a byproduct of the power plant's operations is of the highest quality and is used in the production in the farms.
