Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic stated yesterday that Serbia was working actively on the project of gas interconnection with Bulgaria, but that it was also interested in an interconnection with Romania.

– We are keeping track of all the gas projects in the region with great interest. For Serbia, a gas interconnection with Bulgaria is a key project, but we are also seriously considering an interconnection with Romania, which has had good results in its exploration of gas sites and fields in the Black Sea – Antic told the press.

The minister talked to the ministers of energy of Greece and Bulgaria, Giorgos Stathakis and Temenuzhka Petkova, in the Greek city of Alexandroupoli, where the first oil-gas forum is being held, organized by the Hellenic Association for Energy Economics and the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce.

– At the trilateral meeting between the competent ministers, it was agreed that energy safety was a regional issue and that the question of gas supply needed to be considered together – Antic said.

He pointed out that the development of the projects of gas interconnection between Serbia and Bulgaria and between Greece and Bulgaria was one of the most important questions regarding the diversification of gas supply in the region.

– We also considered the project of the construction of a terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Alexandroupoli and agreed that it was worthy of our attention and further analyses. All these projects need to pass the necessary tests, above all those related to the market, in order to see the degree of their feasibility – Antic pointed out.

He announced that a new meeting should be held on September 28-29 in Bucharest between the competent ministers of Serbia, Greece and Bulgaria, where the projects of gas interconnection would be discussed and where a declaration by which all three states would harmonize the dynamics of the realization of those projects was to be signed.

The next trilateral meeting between the ministers, he added, should be held in late 2017 in Belgrade.
