The passengers on the Sea Princess cruise ship, which was sailing from Sydney to Dubai, spent ten days in total darkness due to a potential attack by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea, Australia's News site reports.

Nearly 2,000 passengers spend 10 of the 94 days of the cruise in total silence and darkness, as Somali pirates have carried out several kidnappings in the past few months, after several years of “truce”, and the area around the Arabian Peninsula is therefore again considered dangerous.

As the Australian site reports, the passengers started to panic, as they believed a terrorist attack was being prepared, and the ship's captain started briefing the crew for the attack scenario.

The ship finally reached the Emirates without much problem, but the passengers were not nearly in as good a mood as they were in at the beginning of the cruise.

They said for the media that they had spent those ten days in fear and that they couldn't wait to reach land.
