The project of the construction of a facility for desulfuring of fumes in units B1 and B2 at the Kostolac B thermal power plant, carried out in cooperation with China, has been completed, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Monday, July 17, 2017.

As reported on the Government's website, following her visit to the energy facility together with Zhang Dejiang, Chairman of the National People's Congress of China, Brnabic pointed out that the test operations were in progress and that she expected the use permit to be obtained soon.

She reminded that the same Chinese company, CMEC, would also build the new 350-MW B3 unit, considerably increasing the capacities of the Serbian energy sector, reports the website of the Government of Serbia.

CMEC has carried out the project of the construction of the facility for desulfuring of fumes in units B1 and B2 at the Kostolac B thermal power plant to the end of reducing the emission of hazardous gases to the amounts prescribed by the law, which will contribute considerably to environmental protection.

The agreement signed by EPS and former PD Termoelektrane i Kopovi Kostolac with the Chinese company on December 8, 2010, which came into effect on December 26, 2012, defines the first phase of the TE Kostolac B project.

The value of the project of the construction of the desulfuring system amounts to USD 130.5 million, whereas the construction of the desulfuring system for units B1 and B2 officially started on May 1, 2014.

In January, EPS and CMEC started mounting a modern BTO system, a bucket-wheel excavator, at the surface cut Drmno in Kostolac, marking the beginning of the second phase of the modernization of the Kostolac thermal power plant, and the total value of the project is USD 715.6 million.

The mounting of the bucket-wheel excavator is a part of the project of the construction of the third unit in Kostolac B with 350 MW, which will be the first big energy facility Serbia will get after three decades.

The Unit B should be completed in 2020.
