Agreements worth EUR 18 million were signed on Friday, July 14, 2017, at the Assembly of Vojvodina, as part of the Interreg IPA program of cross-border cooperation of Croatia and Serbia.

Of the 127 submitted projects, the joint monitoring board had selected 24 projects worth a total of around EUR 18 million based on the first invitation for financing.

Provincial Secretary for Regional Development, Interregional Cooperation and Local Self-Government Ognjen Bjelic said that he was pleased that the program which meant the continuation of a frequent and successful cooperation between the two countries had been initiated.

– The program was created to the end of reducing negative effects of the existence of state borders and building new bridges of friendship and mutual trust by using border potentials at our disposal to the maximum – Bjelic said and added that the institutions of Vojvodina were taking active part in all available cross-border programs.

The selected projects are oriented towards the following fields: enhancing the quality of social and healthcare services, environmental and biodiversity protection, promoting sustainable energy and energy efficiency, development of tourism and preservation of cultural and natural heritage, as well as strengthening competitiveness and developing the business environment.

The financing of a wide range of activities is planned. A school in Osijek is to be reconstructed, the first phase of the reconstruction of the Mileva Maric Einstein high school in Novi Sad is planned, as is the implementation of a system for measuring the concentration of allergens in the air in real time, the reconstruction and development of gerontology clubs at senior citizen homes in Osijek, Apatin and Djakovo, as well as the construction of a solar power plant on the structures of the water supply system in Vinkovci and a cogeneration facility in Sombor.

Regarding the development of tourism, the plan is to design a joint route for the middle Danube, and there are also three planned cross-border projects in the field of gastronomy, recreation and eco-tourism.
