Additional EUR 35 million secured for reconstruction of road sector in Serbia

A total of EUR 3 million has been set aside for the technical help in reforming the Public Enterprise Roads of Serbia and the entire road sector in the Republic of Serbia, it was said following the meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Zorana Mihajlovic and the IMF representatives on Friday, June 30, 2017.

As stated, funds for additional financing of the reconstruction of the road sector of EUR 35 million have been secured as well, and the loan agreement with the World Bank has been extended to June 30, 2018.

The Ministry of Construction says that the project of implementing and developing the system of road maintenance in Serbia (Performance-Based Maintenance Contracts – PBMC), financed from the funds of the European Union (IPA) began on July 21, 2015. The project should enable a more efficient maintenance and utilization of funds meant for road maintenance through a modern wintertime road maintenance system on 3,000 kilometers of state roads.

It was also pointed out that, after 25 years, road maintenance roads will be awarded through tenders.

– As part of the Project of road rehabilitation and increasing traffic safety, 192 kilometers of state roads, worth around EUR 60 million, have been reconstructed in the past two years. This year, the works started on the 24 km-long Kac-Zrenjanin section, and the works are also expected to start on the Belgrade-Novi Sad section of 5.5 kilometers and the Pakovrace-Uzice section of 37.1 kilometers – the ministry says.


They explain that the planning of eight sections with 158 kilometers in total has been agreed, and that the procurement of services of the preparation of main projects for 33 sections with the total length of 674 kilometers is also planned for the current year.

As they say, the entire project of the reconstruction of state roads is financed by the funds of Serbia, World Bank, EIB and EBRD, and the total value amounts to EUR 390 million and entails the rehabilitation of around 1,100 kilometers of the state road network.
