Open Chapters 29 and 7 in accession negotiations with EU
During
negotiations, within Chapter 29, Serbia will align its customs policy with EU
customs policy in order to enter into the European customs union thus
abolishing tariff quotas for goods from EU, and adjusting common quotas towards
third countries, while negotiations under Chapter 7
refer to reform of legislation in field of intellectual property, copyright,
consumer protection, fight against piracy and branding.
The
minister in charge of Euro integration, Jadranka Joksimovic says that the
opening of new chapters in Serbia's accession negotiations is yet another
message that EU doors is open to Serbia.
Joksimovic says that negotiations in open Chapter 7 on intellectual property rights touch the interests of those working in the field of innovation and art and who innovatively support Serbian economy.
When it comes to
Chapter 29 regarding customs union, Joksimovic says that it is a chapter which
will bring benefits for every citizen, company and that everyone in the economy
and society will feel benefits of customs union.
In
the written statement of the European Council's it is stated that Serbia, out
of 35 negotiating chapters, has 10 open for negotiations, two of which have
already been closed temporarily. New
accession conferences will, as announced, be organized to continue progress in
the second half of 2017.
Serbia
began its accession negotiations in January 2014.
