A delegation from the Czech Republic, headed by the president of the Fruit Growers Union, Martin Ludvik, visited Cacak, and the director of the Fruit Research Institute, Milan Lukic, said, following the talks with the Czech delegation, that the country was interested in new varieties of fruit, especially the plums created at the institute.

According to him, they discussed the future cooperation and exchange of planting materials with the Czech delegation.

– Our guests from the Czech Republic said that there was a lot they could learn from us, especially when it comes to the cultivation technology and the production of planting material. When I say cultivation technology, it refers to all varieties of the apple, the pear, but primarily of the plum, considering that they are interested in our plum varieties – Lukic said to the press.

Ludvik said that the Cacanska Lepotica (Cacak Beauty) was one of the most frequent varieties in the Czech Republic.

– We are interested in the process used by our colleagues in Cacak and new plum varieties we might cultivate back home – Ludvik said.

The goal of the visit, as he said, is to talk to Serbian fruit growers, but also to transfer their own experience with how the EU accession influences fruit growing.

State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Velimir Stanojevic, pointed out that the cooperation with Czech colleagues had intensified, especially regarding the harmonization of the Serbian legislature in the field of agriculture and environmental protection with that of the European Union.

– The Czech ministry took part in this year’s Novi Sad International Agricultural Fair with around 20 of its companies and we agreed then to have representatives of the Czech Fruit Growers Union visit the Fruit Research Institute. Our plum varieties are among the leading ones in the Czech Republic and this is a good opportunity for them to get to know the new varieties of plums and other fruit created at the Fruit Research Institute – Stanojevic said.

According to him, the cooperation between the ministry and the institute has been made concrete these days.

– The minister has announced that the production of certified planting material, which will be put in charge of the Fruit Growing Institute as the leading institution in Serbia, with an emphasis on the raspberry, will be financed separately – Stanojevic concluded.
