Electronic tickets to drive out paper ones - new flying tickets starting from June 2nd
According to the decision of the International Air Transportation Association (IATA), electronic tickets replaced common paper tickets in air transportation starting from June 2nd.
Discontinuing of issuing paper tickets will make it possible for the members of IATA, which cover 94% of the air transportation in the world, to save about 3 billion USD on annual basis, because one electronic ticket costs 1 USD, while paper ticket costs 10 USD.
Electronic ticket represents the evidence of purchase of the place in the plane and it exists only in digital form in the airliner's computer. Passenger can print the proof that contains the information on the booking and ticket number.
IATA estimated that the introduction of electronic tickets would make it easier for the passengers to change the date of the flight and flying routes, it will also enable them avoid waiting in rows and they do not need to worry about losing the ticket any more.
Every year, travel agencies within the distribution system of IATA issue more than 400m flying tickets.
In April, only 5% of the issued tickets were paper ones.
