Roof of the "Belgrade arene" to leak?
The manager of "Belgade arene" Dusan Vitas, asked whether the roof of the biggest hall in the Balkans really had holes, answered that the roof had leaked in the summer of 2004, but the reparation works were undertaken. The price of the works was not high, a few million CSD, said Vitas.
The problem dates from 1998. "Energoprojekt", the contractor of that time, signed a deal with the German company "Bemo" which was supposed to finish the reparation. But, that company experts did not have enough experience in undertaking such works. They have never dealt with the reparation of the roof sized 130x130m, they suddenly left Belgrade when the bombing started in 1999. Later on, they went bankrupt, so the company "Beno" does not exist any more.
Then, the city engaged Leskovac-based company "Omega trade", which at that time cooperated with "Bemo", to finish the works and repair the holes on the roof. The testing of the roof is about to proceed, and there is no better test for that than rains. For that reason, spring is waited to begin, downpours to start, and then will be set how the roof functions.
