In 2016, from diaspora, Serbia received EUR 2.7 billion, which is about 8% of gross domestic product (GDP), Tanjug was told at the National Bank of Serbia (NBS).

Most of the funds, as well as in previous years, came from Germany, Switzerland, Austria and France, or in countries where large part of Serbian diaspora works and lives.

As they said at the central bank, remittances have traditionally been one of the most stable inflows from abroad in Serbia and their average annual inflow in the period from 2011 to 2015 was also about 2.7 billion euros, or about 8.2% of GDP.

According to earlier data, 23% of Serbian citizens have at least one family member abroad, while 11% have occasional or regular income from relatives from abroad.
