Drilling a thermal well to a depth of around a thousand metres to provide thermal water at over 60 degrees marks the start of the second phase of the construction project of the Ada wellness centre.

“Realisation of this ambitious but feasible tourist development project in Ada municipality started in 2014”, says Zoltan Bilicki, mayor of Ada. “It covers building of the Wellness centre, a complex of indoor and outdoor swimming pools, accommodation and accompanyng facilities, as the basis of a general development of spa tourism. With the support of the provincial government the municipality has provided project documentation and the necessary permits, and the works on realisation of the second stage of the project to ensure a supply of thermal water are underway.”

Ada municipality invested 12 million dinars in the first phase, while the second phase will require about 26 million. The provincial government has earmarked 10 million dinars for the works, while the rest of the funds will be provided by the municipality.

As Ivan Đoković, provincial secretary for economy and tourism, said when visiting Ada, although almost all municipalities in Vojvodina have geothermal potential, only the local governments in Bečej and Ada have been active enough to exploit it.

The €2 million investment for completion of the Wellness centre and development of spa tourism in Ada has been planned in phases, in a public-private partnership.

“This two million euro investment may sound ambitious”, said Đoković, “but the entire project was structured and planned in phases so I have no doubt that foreign or domestic investors will be interested. State funds, both from the Province and the Republic, are certainly not sufficient to complete the entire Wellness centre project. But in presenting it to the market I am sure the money will be found. I believe that the Ada project will be one of the most successful tourist projects in Vojvodina.”
