“Deutsche Telekom” and Greek Government have reached agreement that German company can buy 20% of shares of OTE, Greek telecommunication company. In that case, “Deutsche Telekom” will become co-owner of 4% of the capital in “Telekom Srbija”, in which OTE controls 20% of ownership.

“Deutsche Telekom” get their 1/5 of OTE capital by buying it from “Marfin Investment Group”, and the value of the sale contract is 2,5 billions EUR (26 EUR per share). “Deutsche Telekom” plans to get another 5%, plus one share, in order to become equal to the Greek Government’s ownership part- which is for now the biggest individual co-owner of OTE.

Based on this fact, Greek Government asked for exclusive rights in reaching business decisions and for possible veto, but during negotiations, it was agreed that the Government should keep its exclusive rights within security of telecommunications in Greece and during OTE sale abroad.

Regarding, direct entrance of “Deutsche Telekom” into “Telekom Srbija”, it doesn’t change anything in the management of our national telecommunication operator, where 80% of the shares is in the control of the state of Serbia.

Seen from wider angle, Germans got 4% of shares in Telekom Srbija, which has fast development and day by day reaches new markets in the region. Last year, Telekom Srbija started third mobile operator in Montenegro, “m:tel” and for 646 mil EUR, it bought 65% capital share of “Telekom Srpske”, which gave it the rights to offer mobile telephony services on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the last few days, there were some rumors about intentions of Telekom Srbija to buy the Slovenian Tus Telekom. Slovenian media published this deal as already finished, while Belgrade denied. General Director “Telekom Srbija”, Branko Radujko, on this occasion said that Telekom did not buy Tus Telekom, but that he was very familiar with the situation at Slovenian telecommunication market.

He also said that Telekom Srbija is interested to further expand, but at the moment it is more oriented towards expansion and strengthening of its position in the region and that with more stronger influence in Montenegro and BiH, its priority would also be new take over – of course, if there would come opportunity for that.
