Mikser Festival May 25-28 at former Zitomlin silos
The 2017 Mikser Festival will focus on establishing new relations between the urban environment, society, art, nature and technology, leading to the festival’s main four themes – migrations, mobile education, culture factories, city nature – which at the same time reflect the most pressing challenges that the Mikser organization is also facing within the Serbian social and cultural milieu. The four key themes are being dealt with through all the segments of the festival, already very well known to the audience: Mikser Talks, City Issues, Design, Visual Arts, Edu Zone, Mikser Kids, Cine Mixer and Mikser Music.
The special new feature of this year’s festival will be the four-day creative camp, which will gather young creative people from Serbia, the Balkans and Europe under the motto of “Hacking the Future” around the issue of interdisciplinary team solving of the current social problems through creative thinking and modern technologies.
As Mikser House notes, the initially announced festival location and the potential moving of Mikser House to lower Dorcol (IMK Belgrade factory) has been cancelled due to the bankruptcy proceedings, which have been suddenly sped up, causing the sale of the complex to be expected in a couple of months, leaving no room to the organization of Mikser to present the scenario of saving the industrial complex from its inevitable fate – the construction of another shopping mall or business complex. As they say, “without going into the reasons of the sudden speed with which the status of the location initially agreed for the 2017 Mikser Festival is being solved, we’ve decided to organize the event at the first industrial location we revealed to the people of Belgrade in 2009”.
The Mikser team, however, adds that they will not give up on their attempts to find a new location in their home city.
– We hope that we will be able to give reliable information about the new address of Mikser House in Belgrade during the upcoming festival. Mikser House, as a center of permanent cultural activities, most of which promote multiculturalism in the Balkans, has contributed to the enlargement of the audience and the recognition of the Mikser cultural platform throughout the region. The news about the opening of Mikser House in Sarajevo, which has seen very positive response and which is expected to take place right before the 2017 Sarajevo Film Festival in August, speaks in favor of this.
