Moonlight wins Best Picture Oscar – Six awards for musical La La Land

The Best Picture Oscar award ceremony, held on Sunday, February 26, was marked by an unusual incident. Actor Warren Beatty was given a wrong envelope, which led to La La Land initially being pronounced the Best Picture of 2016 instead of Moonlight.

The mistake was corrected immediately and Barry Jenkins' Moonlight was awarded the Best Picture of 2016.

Emma Stone was awarded Best Actress for her role in the musical La La Land, whereas Casey Affleck won the Best Actor award for his role in Manchester by the Sea.

Damien Chazelle, whose La La Land was a big favorite with 14 nominations, won the Best Director award, whereas the movie itself won six Oscars, among which those for Best Original Song, Best Cinematography and Best Production Design.
