The construction of a gas connection to Bulgaria is a very important project for Serbia, Minister of Energy Aleksandar Antic stated on February 24 and added that he expected that Serbia would soon get an EU grant of around EUR 50 million for the project.

– This is truly one of the most important projects for our energy security. The grant in the amount of EUR 50 million we expect to get, which I hope is agreed, is truly a capital grant for us and our government and the Ministry of Energy are dedicated to the realization of the project – Antic said at the Nikola Tesla Thermal Power Plant (TENT) in Obrenovac, during the visit to the facility he made together with EC Director General for Enlargement Christian Danielsson.

Antic added that Serbia would realize the project within the defined deadlines.

It is expected that the project will enter the IPA financing program for 2017 and that Serbia will have operating assets as soon as 2018, as well as that the interconnector will become operational in 2020, in line with the project schedule.

Danielsson also said that the construction of a gas interconnection with Bulgaria was an important project for Serbia due to the diversification of gas supply.
