The project of the construction of a highway between Sarajevo and Belgrade is strategically important for both B&H and Serbia, Minister of Communication and Transport of B&H Ismir Jusko and Minister of Transport and Communication of Republika Srpska Nedjo Trninic estimated during their talk about the project in Sarajevo on Wednesday, February 15, 2017.

Following the meeting, Jusko said for the press that propositions by Republika Srpska and Autoceste FB&H had also been discussed and that there was a list of propositions.

– At this moment, there are five to six different propositions. There are also certain requirements we need to adhere to. We must take into consideration what the plan of the Republic of Serbia was and connect to that route – Jusko said, as reported by Fena.

As reported by Klix.ba, there are as many as eight potential routes for the future Sarajevo-Belgrade highway.

Jusko said that the final decision would be made after the meeting with the investor in Turkey, to be held in a month at the latest, following which the route would be defined as well.

He said that it needed to be known how much money was to be invested, that neither of the propositions would be favored over the others, and that it needed to be taken into consideration what the plan of Serbia was in order for them to connect to that route.

– The members of the Bosnian parliament suggest that the route should go through Bijeljina, another option is for it to go from Bijeljina towards Doboj, the third one would go towards Milici. There are also propositions for routes from Vardiste towards Sokolac, Pale, Gorazde and Ustipraca. We will narrow down the options and choose the best route, but it’s crucial for representatives of Serbia to attend the next meeting – Jusko said.

According to him, the east part B&H is poor and the road infrastructure is bad, but that route might enable people to establish a link with Corridor 5C and the countries that Serbia is connected to.

Minister of Transport and Communication of Republika Srpska Nedjo Trninic pointed out that all the propositions were treated equally.

– The position of Republika Srpska is to advocate what is currently in our documents, namely, the Spatial Plan of Republika Srpska and the Strategy of Republika Srpska, which is part of the Strategy of B&H. Of course, certain deviations are possible. We have considered several options. The shortest link is between Sarajevo and Vardiste, and it continues through Serbia as well – Trninic said.
