Cristiano Ronaldo highest paid athlete in 2016 – Novak Djokovic sixth with earnings of USD 55.8 million

The Real Madrid football player Cristiano Ronaldo is the highest paid athlete in the world in 2016, according to Forbes. The Portuguese national team player earned USD 88 million last year, of which USD 56 million in club salaries and USD 32 million from sponsorship deals.

The second spot belongs to Barcelona’s Lionel Messi with USD 81.4 million (53.4+28), whereas LeBron James is third with USD 77.2 million (23.2+54).

Next on the list is Roger Federer, who earned USD 67.8 million in 2016, of which USD 7 million from tournament awards and as much as USD 60 million from sponsors.


The sixth spot belongs to the best Serbian tennis player, Novak Djokovic, with earnings of USD 55.8 million (21.8+34).

The list of the 100 highest paid athletes in 2016 also features the currently suspended Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova, who earned USD 21.9 million (1.9+20).
