The agricultural-fishing company Sveti Nikola, a factory for cold processing of vegetables in Sutjeska, has opened a job contest for permanent workers with a trial period. More than a hundred workers are required, of various vocations, for work in the new factory’s facilities. The municipality of Secanj has not seen this kind of investment for a long time.

The factory with a cold storage plant in Sutjeska, the construction of which is nearing completion, might lead to an improvement of living conditions in this poor area. The investor, Sveti Nikola, is carrying out this project nearly half a century since the raising of the last malt factory in the neighboring Krajisnik.

Sveti Nikola started operating in Secanj 17 years ago, and its founders and equal owners are the Belgrade-based companies Neimar 5 and Kemoimpex. It employs 200 workers and has a fishing pond in Neuzina, where it breeds carp on 580 hectares. Farming and vegetable growing take up 4,000 of the factory’s own fields in Sutjeska, Secanj, Banatska Dubica and Krajisnik. It has been one of Frikom’s main suppliers for years.

The production facilities and the cold storage plant in Sutjeska take up 9,000 square meters. The processing capacity of the modern production lines is 14,000 tons a year, and the value of investment is EUR 15 million.

– A test run should be performed soon, and the regular production should start this May. The expansion of the warehouse and fruit processing are planned in the second phase – says Sandra Medjedovic, production manager at the new factory, from where 80% of the goods will be exported to the EU and the Russian Federation.

Sveti Nikola has 1,500 hectares under irrigation systems, allowing for two harvests a year, and their fields will secure 60-70% of the necessary amounts of peas, green beans, corn and other vegetables for the planned production of 15 frozen vegetable mixes. The new factory should stimulate the production in local fields and gardens as well, and the Government of Vojvodina has announced financial supports and connecting registered agricultural producers with processing facilities form the food industry.

– The connection will bring safety and earnings to everyone, secure increased production and export of food from Vojvodina. We will also stimulate new employments with grants – Igor Mirovic, president of the Provincial Government, stated during his visit to the construction site in Sutjeska.
