The current director of the Development Agency of Serbia, Zeljko Sertic, and former governor of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), Dejan Soskic, will become independent members of the Managing Board of the Bank of China, as Blic reports.

However, as Sertic was a minister until recently and is still performing a public function, he must ask the Anti-Corruption Agency of Serbia for approval of this engagement, due to a possible conflict of interest.

Sertic has confirmed this in a way by saying for Blic that he will file a request to the Agency.

– I am waiting for the necessary documents from the Bank of China and I will file a request immediately thereafter, in line with the law – he said.

When asked by the press how it was possible that he was already on the list of the board members of the bank, he answered that it was probably just that the procedure was such.

Blic also tried to contact Dejan Soskic, but he didn't answer the phone calls.

The Anti-Corruption Agency Act states in the section on conflict of interest that a functionary is obliged to cease performing another activity if it is determined that impartial performance of duty or the reputation of the public function is thereby jeopardized.

– The Agency may give a permit for performing other activities as well, at the request of the functionary – the Act says.

The Bank of China acquired the permit from the NBS in late November and will start operating on January 20, 2017. In Serbia, it will operate under the name of Bank of China, akcionarkso drustvo Beograd, and will act as the central for the Balkans, East and West Europe.
