Representatives of company "Universiade 2009" represented the plan for public procurements in 2008 yesterday (April 2, 2008), in the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, for the needs of that manifestation. It was estimated on that ocassion that the budget for procurements in amount of nearly 2 billion RSD could be an exceptional opportunity for local businessmen to give contribution to the organization of Universiade, as well as to earn some money doing that.
The meeting in the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, Božidar Đelić, who said that "Universiade" would gather more than 12,000 students sportsmen from 120 countries and that the expected number of spectators was about 50,000. He reminded that the Government of Serbia and City of Belgrade set aside 2.6 billion RSD for organization of the event, and it is expected that about 5 billion RSD will be set aside for the same purpose next year.
- This budget is also a great chance for our economy. Public procurements worth 2 billion RSD will be realized only in 2008. The Law on public procurements provides certain benefits for local bidders and we expect that huge part of that cake would be given to our economy sector. Three sectors will be especially important. The first sector is civil engineering where public procurements worth 610m RSD will be realized this year. In field of textile industry, procurements for the sake of equipping the participants in "Universiade" will be worth 4.1m EUR, while the tender worth 200m RSD will be announced in the second quarter of this year. At the end, furniture industry can expect procurements worth 274m RSD. There will also be much work for the companies that are active in the domain of information technologies, food industry, marketing... - said Đelić.
The Chief Executive Officer of company "Universiade 2009", Siniša Jasnić, reminded that, during that sports manifestation, total of 15,000 volonteers would be hired, 3,000 of whom from abroad. Company "Universiade" will hire about 1,300 workers, while about 60,000 people will be taking care of the entire organization.
- We expect to earn 7m USD from the accommodation of participants, few tens of millions from sale of TV rights and the same amount from the various contents we will offer. The estimates are that the costs will amount to 114m EUR and that the incomes from the Universiade will exceed 200m EUR - said Jasnić.
