Serbia opening chapter on public procurement in accession negotiations with European Union

At the Accession Conference at Ministerial level of Serbia and the European Union, to be held on December 13 in Brussels, Serbia will open Chapter 5 – Public Procurement, it was announced at Brussels.

In the following days, representatives of member-states should have discussions within working groups in Brussels and reach a consensus on which chapters Serbia will open next week. In addition to Chapter 5, Chapters 25 – Science and Research and 26 – Education and Culture might be opened. Their opening is conditioned by the progress in normalizing relations with Pristina, but also by the positions of some of the member-states.

Tanjug's diplomatic sources from Brussels say that there are intensive talks, with Zagreb among others, in order to bring the positions in line and enable a possible opening of the three chapters at the December 13 Conference. Aside from Croatia, Bulgaria has been mentioned unofficially as a country making additional demands in these areas.
