Road maintenance workers to waste whole building season because of elections - 340m EUR worth of loans for traffic infrastructure blocked
Minister of Infrastructure, Velimir Ilić, said yesterday (March 17, 2008) that 340m EUR worth of loans intended for traffic infrastructure were "blocked" because certain financial arrangements waited for ratification in the Parliament.
- The loans are for the construction of bypass around Belgrade, Kokin Brod - Nova Varoš road, Corridor 10, reconstruction of 100 bridges, as well as 20m EUR for rehabilitation of landslides and series of other projects - Ilić specified.
Ilić especially pointed to the project for reconstruction "Gazela" bridge and 120m EUR intended for construction of bypass around Belgrade, which would cause long delay of works.
He specified that those credit arrangements had already entered the budget of Serbia and that they just needed to be formally ratified.
Ilić warned that the road maintenance workers would lose the entire building season due to dissolving of the Parliament and the announcement of elections, and that large projects would suffer although the world's and European banks had already approved international loans for their financing, which must be serviced.
