Germany donates EUR 5.4 million to Serbia for kindergartens, schools and hospitals

Minister of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy Aleksandar Vulin signed, on Wednesday, November 9, an agreement with representatives of the German Development Bank (KfW) on the donation of EUR 5.4 million for construction and reconstruction of kindergartens, schools and health institutions in 12 underdeveloped municipalities in Serbia's south stricken by the immigration crisis.

Ambassador of Germany to Serbia Axel Dittmann said that Germany supported Serbia on its road to the EU integration and thanked it for solving the immigration crisis responsibly.

– We wish to support Serbia in its attempts to revive underdeveloped municipalities and build local infrastructure. KfW has provided grants to benefit 10,000 pupils and students and 5,000 patients, and 2,000 kindergarten slots will open as well – Dittmann said.

He added that he would be glad to take a tour of the construction sites in a short time and expressed hope that the aid would be extended.

Minister Vulin thanked the Government of Germany for the selfless help it had provided.

– This is not a loan taken to realize an interest, it's a grant aiming to improve the quality of life, and it will also help us deal with the migrant crisis more easily. Everything built will remain available for people to use and this aid will change the quality of life in Serbia – Vulin said.

The program of strengthening social infrastructure in municipalities stricken by the migrant crisis encompasses 27 individual projects.
