Trimodal logistics center in city's heart – Port of Vienna expanding by 70,000 m2

The Port of Vienna is the largest logistics center of eastern Austria, with water, land and railway transport infrastructure and an annual turnover of 7 million tons of goods. It is the largest center for transport of goods in Austria and one of the most important European hinterlands for, above all, large ports of the North Seas and the Adriatic Sea, representatives of the City of Vienna remind.

Thanks to investments, the program of construction of the Port of Vienna has been running at full speed in the past years. In 2015, EUR 20 million was invested to that end. The proof that the investment and the expansion of the port have paid off is last year's turnover of nearly EUR 53 million. The Port of Vienna received EUR 5 million from the EU in 2013 for the port construction projects.

This year, the rail infrastructure company SCHIG mbH will invest EUR in the Port of Vienna. The funds will be used for the second phase of land reclamation on the bank of the Danube and expansion of the container terminal. Following this, the bank area will have been expanded by 70,000 m2, say representatives of the City of Vienna.
