Obrenovac and Mladenovac by bus with air conditioning and internet – Tender worth EUR 330 million for city transport

Companies intending to provide public passenger transport in the next ten years will need to equip their buses with air conditioning, cameras, passenger counters, wireless internet...

Immediately after completing a tender, the Secretariat for Transport of Belgrade placed another one, worth RSD 40 billion, i.e. EUR 330 million, which amounts to EUR 33 million a year.

Those interested can apply throughout October and submit bids for one of the two jobs: complete city transport or transport on the “span 600”.

A favorite for the former job is Lasta, which currently covers more than a hundred, mostly local, lines with the help of Lastra, but also those connecting Belgrade to Obrenovac, Mladenovac and Lazarevac, whereas the “span 600” is operated by a group of as many as 13 private transport companies.

Those who want to get this profitable job will have to provide 230 buses, of which 80 articulated buses. Neither bus may be older than 13 years at the moment of signing the agreement.

The only company which could realistically provide competition to the current transport companies is Arriva, provided that they find this job interesting and cost-effective.

It appears that residents of suburban areas will be provided with a higher quality of transport, as the inter-city vehicles as a rule do not have air conditioning, wireless internet, cameras...
