Serbia intends to open every EU negotiating chapter by 2018
“Our plan is to be completely prepared and to take on the obligations of membership by 2018. This means that every chapter must be opened by then, and a good number closed”, said Miščević, adding that ideally the chapters should all be closed by then, but it is impossible to predict what will happen in the EU.
She thinks that opening the chapters could be accelerated, but insists on good preparation to fulfil the indicators for opening the chapters and to lay out the negotiating positions.
The negotiations began three years ago, since when four chapters have been opened. This year five chapters will be opened, which is a good result.
According to Miščević there is an internal negotiating team plan to assess the status twice a week and send informal summaries to Brussels.
A report on chapters 23, 24 and 35 is expected, she says, but warns that it could all fall in the water if chapters 23 and 24 are not implemented.
