53rd Belgrade International Meeting of Writers begins
This year's event will be marked by three anniversaries, 400 years from Shakespeare's death, 140 years from Borisav Stankovic's birth and a century from Petar Kocic's death, which will provide topics of discussion at round tables.
Belgrade will be visited by writers from Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Armenia, Macedonia, Germany, Poland, Romania, Russia, USA, Slovakia, Slovenia, France, Montenegro, United Arab Emirates and Republika Srpska.
A dozen eminent local writers and around thirty Serbian writers from the diaspora will also contribute to the event with their presence.
The novel By the Will of Genghis Khan, by Nikolai Luginov, which has been very well received in Russia, will be presented on Monday, after which the guests will read their poems at the House of Djura Jaksic. An evening of writers from Kosovo & Metohija will also be organized at 7 Francuska Street.
After the laying of a wreath on the tombstone of Ivo Andric, the Meeting will open on Tuesday in the grand hall of the Assembly of the City of Belgrade, followed by discussions at round tables. At the afternoon cruise down the Danube, poets and Serbian actors will be reciting verse for more than two hours.
On Wednesday, the sixth international Spiritual Poetry Gathering will be held at the Rakovica Monastery and the Rakovica Cultural Center, followed by the guests' visit to Pozega, Vrnjacka Banja, Raca Kragujevacka, Kragujevac, Petrovac na Mlavi, Kladovo, Novi Sad...
