Indonesian company Indofood has opened a noodle factory in Indjija. The company’s director Axton Salim thanked the Governemnt of Serbia for incentives and good cooperation and said that the Salim Group, the parent company of Indofood, would continue to expand economic and other relations between the two countries.

Indofood’s investment in the factory in Indjija, their first such investment in Europe, is worth more than EUR 11 million. In the first phase, 100 workers will be employed, and the plan is to reach the number of 500 employees once the investment is fully implemented.

Indofood is one of world leaders in food production. Their “Indomie” is one the largest and best known noodle brands in the world. Its production in Serbia is planned to include up to 90% of local raw materials.

President Tomislav Nikolic said at the opening of the factory that Indofood’s investment confirmed the fact that Serbia was a right place for investing, thanks to its excellent geographical position, qualified work force, favorable tax policy and a wide array of other governmental incentives.

Nikolic said that the packaging would include the “Made in Serbia” tag next to the Indofood name. He pointed out that Serbia was an attractive destination for investments due to a stable economic environment and a good legislature and that the government would always guarantee that foreign investment would be secure and protected.

– The most important effect is the message that Serbia is capable of taking part and winning the most important global market games. The proof of this is the fact that the Indonesian investor’s capital was used to buy machines in Japan on which hard working and competent Serbian workers will process the most quality Serbian raw materials into products to be exported to America, the European Union and all over the world – he pointed out.

Nikolic reminded that the idea on investing in Serbia had arisen from talks with the president of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, on which occasion it had been agreed that the activities should be directed to improving economic cooperation, in order for it to reach the high level of the current political relations.

The president of the Government of Vojvodina, Igor Mirovic, emphasized that Serbia was the best place for investments in the region and that the new industrial policy would continue to be implemented, especially in manufacture. He said that the Provincial Government would continue with incentives for foreign investors.
