Representatives of the Government, unions and employers have started negotiating about defining the new minimum wage. The session of the Social and Economic Council (SEC) is expected to be held next week, stated Minister of of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy Aleksandar Vulin today.

Vulin said that, prior to that, the work groups, which were to reach appropriate conclusions on a technical level through observing seven basic parameters for defining the minimum wage, would start working.

– We are ready to include those who are not part of the SEC in the negotiations, by which we mean the largest investors and employers, so that they can also give their opinion, and the final decision will be made by the SEC members – Vulin said.

He added that the Government of Serbia wished to improve workers' standing and to properly reward them for their work.

– However, the manner and the amount is something that the commercial sector as such has to give its opinion on. We want to hear what the unions and employers have to say, and the Government will announce what its final stance is – Vulin said.

As he says, the negotiations are in progress in any case, and they are expected to be completed successfully as soon as possible by reaching an agreement between all the participants in the social dialogue, and before the legal deadline, which is September 15.

The deadline will be honored, Vulin said.
